Biggest Mover on INDY NXT Debut

Callum Hedge has finished a tough weekend on the streets of St Petersburg by being awarded the Jostons Biggest Mover award.

Starting 18th, after a crash in qualifying, Hedge went on to stay out of trouble, and make a few passes to finish the race in 11th place.

Hedge’s INDY NXT debut came after a challenging pre-season, where to 20 year old Kiwi had his appendix removed on the day of his first INDY NXT test. After spending a month recovering, Hedge continued to struggle with the loss of strength, and battled through the final pre-season test, logging about 15 laps.

Heading into Round 1 with limited running, Callum and his team had one goal - finish the race and get some good points, and good learning in the bank.

With only two practice session on an INDY NXT weekend, Hedge used these to come up to speed with driving a much more powerful car, around a challenging street circuit.

A crash in qualifying meant the New Zealander would start from 18th on the grid, with 45 laps to move forward. The team elected to not use green tyres, in order to save them for the next round, meaning Hedge’s pace was hampered.

Hedge was able to complete 45 clean laps, and continue his learning progress, to finish 11th in his first INDY NXT race.

Round 2 of the INDY NXT championship will be held at Barber Motorsports Park on 26th-28th April.
