Hedge completes TRS test

New Zealand rising star Callum Hedge has completed two days of Toyota Racing Series testing at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park last week.

Hedge impressed on each day, the first participating in the Hampton Downs Academy test featuring among others Daniel Gaunt as a mentor, while the second was instigated by Toyota GAZOO Racing New Zealand where the 17-year-old was aided by Chris van der Drift.

Currently, Hedge is competing in the second-tier Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge in Australia for Earl Bamber Motorsport where he sits third in the points with one race win at Phillip Island to his name.

Testing a TRS open-wheeler was a different experience for Hedge as he had to adapt to the different seating position, handling characteristics and aerodynamic effects provided by the Tatuus FT-60.

The test days provide a potential of Hedge’s future as he hopes to compete in the noted development category held across the New Zealand summer next season.

“It’s definitely a big change from what I’m used to with the lack of leg room and space around the car,” Hedge said. “I was on the pace, which was really good. All the engineers and driver coaches they had on the two days were really happy with my performance.

“It’s definitely no secret I’m trying to do it and I definitely enjoyed the last few days I’ve had in the car.”
